Girls Inc Online Community
Girls Inc. Online is a free, secure, and private E-community website accessible just girls only in select locations nationwide, including Alabama. Wherever girls have access to the Internet, they will have access to Girls Inc. Online. The E-community gives girls the opportunity to express themselves and connect with other members while discovering new things about themselves and the world. Girls can learn about various Girls Inc.© programs, increase their self-expression with games, and build confidence in Internet technology.
Girls Incorporated developed the online membership as a national project in order to reach girls who do not have access to a Girls Inc. Center or Girls Inc. programs near them. However, the progam has grown and girls who are already involved with a Girls Inc. Center are being encouraged to take advantage of this program.
Why Encourage Girls to Join the E-Community?
- Girls can express themselves by creating their own avatar (a picture like the girls above), word portraits, and by personalizing color-schemes on the Girls Inc. Online website.
- Girls can post messages on various Girls Inc. boards, send e-mails to other members, and participate in monitored, live discussions with women in interesting and unique professions.
- Girls have the opportunity to learn about health and relationships, the economy, money management, and investigate exciting careers.
- By actively participating, girls can earn credits and become eligible for the Motivational Awards Program. As girls earn more credits, they can apply for awards including digital cameras, electronic keyboards, and even scholarships!
Girls Inc Online lets you customize your home page, send messages to other members, create your virtual room, and talk in forums.
Who Can Join?
Any girl can join who is between the ages 6 - 18 and would like to be part of an exclusive girl-only online community. Girls who do not have access to a Girls Inc. near them are encouraged to participate in this E-community to interact with their peers while also learning new and exciting things about the world.
How Do You Join?
Each girl interested in joining will be sent a registration packet filled with Frequently Asked Questions, application forms, and additional forms for both parents and girls to read and sign. Is it Safe?
Girls Inc. Online is a safe and secure website for girls. It has gone beyond the requirements of the COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) to ensure the safety of all participants. The registration process for girls includes completing a girl application, parental permission and consent form, and having a third party (a notary public, a school authority, etc.) verify the identity of the applicant. After the application is processed, the girl will be sent a unique username and password for access to Girls Inc. Online. Internet surfers will not be able to access the website because it is password protected. Furthermore, girls are asked to sign a Code of Conduct that details acceptable online behavior. All activities within the website are monitored by Girls Inc. staff and will be checked regularly.
